Mauban Mission Trip 2008
March 26, 2008
Last March 20, the Watchmen (Men's Fellowship) organized a Mission trip to Mauban in Quezon province. A total of eleven members from GPCC and one 3-year old boy made the 5-hour trip via land, 45 minutes via motor-powered bangka, to reach and spread the gospel to our brothers and sisters there.
The group left Santa Rosa at around 5 AM on Maundy Thursday. They arrived safely in the town of Mauban around 10 AM, and while some took the bangka to reach the final destination, others opted to walk there instead in order to distribute leaflets on salvation in the villages along the way. It took 2.5 hours on foot, and the group was reunited in Brgy. Santa Lucia, Mauban at 2:30 PM. After a late lunch, they spent the rest of the afternoon resting and swimming at the nearby beach.
Activities began on Good Friday, starting with the Men's daily devotion at 6 AM. A whole-day service was conducted, led by Pastor Gudlo whose topic was salvation. Around 200 people were able to attend the service and enjoy the film showing and program that followed. We praise God for the good turnout and for His grace on the people of Santa Lucia; more than 40 adults responded to the Lord’s call and accepted Him that day. The children were taught separately by Sisters Nica and Wowie. They talked about the story of Lazarus, and the older kids were led to pray the Sinner’s Prayer. No Easter celebration would be complete without food, of course, and everyone enjoyed the preparations of Bro. Rey and Sister Nora.
The group left Mauban for Santa Rosa the following morning after the 6 AM devotion. Though it was a tiring journey, everyone felt that the trip was both exciting and rewarding. It was a joy and a privilege not just to be with the warm and friendly people of Mauban but also to be used by the Lord in spreading the Good News. To God be the glory!
