Hillsong United concert experience
June 3, 2008
For the first time in my life, I’ve never seen a crowd as big as the people inside Araneta Coliseum last May 26, 2008 when Hillsong United visited our country to once again ignite the passion and hearts of the Filipino people for Jesus. Let me describe to you what the unforgettable scene looked like: kids, youth and adults singing on top of their lungs, thousands of hands held up high, eyes closed with tears trickling down their cheeks – a perfect picture of the generation that seeks the face of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Sixteen members from our church (mostly from Neaniskos [Youth]) left as early as 3:30 pm in Sta. Rosa to have a good view of the stage from the General Admission area. To our surprise, we weren’t the first ones there, it’s already jam packed! Good thing, we were able to get good seats even before the whole place was filled. The worship service started at around 8:30pm until 11pm. The band sang Break Free, Saviour King, Hosanna, Take it All, and 16 other tracks from their albums.
Joel Houston, one of the lead singers/guitarist of the band was overwhelmed with the intense worship and the presence of Jesus in the midst of thousands of people. He desired to let everybody – even outside the Coliseum – see how we worshipped the Living God and let this testimony touch their hearts and accept Jesus as their Saviour. He led the people, especially those who are still lost, in a prayer accepting Jesus as their Messiah and giving up their lives for His Glory. We never left the place empty handed. In our hearts, we have Jesus, our Comforter and Friend. This experience is worth remembering and its memories will last forever.
Let us all desire to have a heart of worship, not looking at the singer or the songs to sing. Instead, look unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our Faith. It is not about the song, it is about our hearts willing to beat for Jesus.
“Heal my heart and make it clean. Open up my eyes to the things unseen. Show me how to love like You have loved me…” – Hosanna, Hillsong United
